Worcester Bike History

 

Bicycle Clubs - In the late 1800s, the cycling craze had hit the states and Worcester was no exception. In 1894, Worcester had at least 5 clubs.

The Bay State Bicycle Club,

Worcester Wheel Club,

YMCA Wheelmen,

Scorcher Cycle Club

Commonwealth Cycle Club.

 

This 1903 photograph is of another newer club called the Century Cycle Club. The photo was taken at the Shrewsbury Street racetrack (Worcester Coliseum). The Coliseum was located across from East Park and was a quarter mile track opened in 1900.
